NOTICE OF APPRAISEMENT OF THE ESTATE OF ANDREW CARTMILL
The people of the State of Illionis To; David Nusum, Cyrus Sanders(then crossed out) John Huston & William Fokes. of the county of Sangamon, in the State of Illinois. Greeting; - - These are to authorize you jointly to appraise the goods, chattels and personal estate of Andrew Cartmill, late of the county of Sangamon, deceased so far as the same shall come to your sight and knowledge, each of you having first taken the oath here to annexed a certificate whereof you are to return annexed to an appraisment bill of said goods, chattels and personal estate by your appraised in dollars and cents and in the said bill of appraisment you are to set down in column or columns opposite to each article appraised the value thereof and foot the same at the bottom of each page.We David Nusum, J. Huston, & William Fokes do solemnly swear that we will
without prejudice or partiality value and appraise the goods, chattels and
personal estate of Andrew Cartmill, deceased, so far as the same shall come
to our sight and knowledge and that we will in all things perform our

Know all men by these present Nancy Cartmill, John M. Cartmill, Charles
Harper and David Nusum are hereto and firmly bound unto the people of the
State of Illinois in the final sum of one thousand, three hundred - dollars
which payment will and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs
executors and administrators jointly and severally by these presents
Witness our hands and seals this 18th day of October 1832.
The condition of the above obligation is such that if the said Nancy and credits
of Andrew Cartmill deceased, do make or cause to be made a true
and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and chattels of the
said deceased which shall come to the hands, possessions or knowledge of
her the said Nancy Cartmill as such administrator to the hands of any other
person or persons for her and the same as made do exhibit in the court of
probate for the County of Sangamon, agreeable to law and such goods and
chattels, rights and credits do well and truly administer according to law
and all the rest of said goods, chattels which shall be found remains upon
the account of the said administrator, the same being first occasioned and
allowed,
I Nancy Cartmill do solemnly swear that I will well and truly administer on
the goods and chattels of Andrew Cartmill deceased, and will render a fair
and just account thereof when thereto legally required to the best of my
knowledge and abilities and that I will pay all just claims against the
estate so far as the same shall extend and the Law charge me.

James Adams agrees that he will assist Nancy Cartmill in her administration
and will advise and attend to the business for her in the County of
Sangamon and see that the same is legally done but it is understood that
the said attention in to such business as does not embrace the duties of
Judge of Probate and will also attend to such collecting as may be needed
in said County excepting any suit that may be pending or carries to the
Circuit Court or before the Judge of Probate - - And for the advise and
attention aforesaid the Administratrix agrees to and pay him one half of
the legal commission allowed her on her said administration. The above does
not interfere in anywise with the legal fees allowed the Judge of Probate
for any duties performed as Judge of Probate.

William Riley Pate a minor of the age of nineteen years came into the court
and presented his petition and requested a guardian to be appointed over his
property and estate during his minority and recommended and made choice of
John Brannen as his guardian and William Pate, the father of the said minor,
also appeared in court and having first been informed of the said
application declared to this court that he has nothing to say why a guardian
should not be appointed, it also appearing that the said minor has personal
property not derived from his father whereupon leave was given and the said
John Brannen presented his bond for his f_________ful guardianship with
William Pate as his surety in the sum of $20. Whereupon letters of
guardianship were granted in the words following:

You, the said John Brannen, having been chosen by William Riley Pate (a
minor of the age of 19 years) as his guardian, and we reposing special trust
and confidence hereby constitute you the said John Brannen guardian of the

constituted guardian of the goods, chattels, _________, and tenements,
rights, and effects of the said William Riley Pate and under the direction
and education and as guardian as by law you are required to do, transact and
perform all such duties as are given to and vested in you as guardian of
said William Riley Pate for and during his minority.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto sat my hand and affixed my private seal
(there being no public seal) at Springfield this eighth day of October 1827.

Deed To November A.D. 1835, Between George Duff and Jane
Sarah Hall his wife of the County of Sangamon & State of Illinois of the
first part and Sarah Hall of the Second Part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first, for
and in consideration of the Sum of Eight hundred Dollars in hand paid by the said party of the
Second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted Bargained, and Sold,
and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said party of the Second part his heirs
and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of situate lying and being in the County of Sangamon and
State of Illinois on the waters of Lick Creek known and Designated as follows to wit:
The East half of the North West quarter of Section twenty Six in the township fifteen North of Range
Six west in the district of Lands subject to sale at Springfield Illinois containing eighty acres.
To have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land, together with all and singular the privileges
and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the only Proper use and
benefit of them the said party of the second part their heirs and assigns Forever and the said party of
the first part do convenant to and with the said party of the Second part that they will forever warrant
& defend the said tract of land from the claim of them the said party of the first part and their heirs and

purpose of Securing the said John Hall against ________ or damage as my said Security - bargained
sold and mortgaged unto the said John Hall one Bay Mare and & one ____________ upon the
following condition to wit. If I the said Wm Hall should pay or cause to be paid the above __________
Note when due or otherwise release said John Hall from all liability on account of said note then this
Mortgage to be nill & void but if default be made in the payment of said note or any part thereof so that
the said John Hall shall have the same to pay or any part thereof he the said John Hall is hereby
authorized to take possession of said Property & sell the same and apply the proceeds there
of to satisfy all damages that he the said John Hall may sustain as such Security - said property to

Edmund RATHBONE to Andrew CARTMEL - This indenture made and entered into this 12th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty between Edmund RATHBONE and Deborah his wife of the one part and Andrew CARTMELL of the other part, all of Sangamon County and State of Illinois. Witnesseth that the said Edmund RATHBONE and Deborah his wife for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars current money of the United States to them in hand paid by said Andrew CARTMELL. The receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Andrew CARTMELL, his heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel of land situated, laying and being in the County and State aforesaid and known and designated on the plot of the original survey as being the west half of the northeast quarter of section seventeen in the township three north of range four west. Containing 80 acres together with all and singular premises there unto belong or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the land is hereby conveyed into him, the said Andrew CARTMELL, his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Edmund RATHBONE and Deborah his wife, do further covenant and agree to will and truly warrant and forever defend the title to the above granted land, and promise unto the said Andrew CARTMELL, his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. Also personally appeared before me Deborah RATHBONE, wife of the said Edmund RATHBONE, she being examined separate and apart from her said husband. Acknowledged the within deed of conveyance to be her voluntary act and that she executed the same without the threats, coercion or persecution of her husband and freely relinquished her right of dower to the premises within mentioned and desires that the same be admitted to record.
